In 1985 Albert Shanker, former President of the American Federation of Teachers, and the Carnegie Foundation teamed to create the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards®. Dedicated to raising the bar in the field of education, the board created five core propositions that embody instructional excellence. By studying each of the five, educators can hone professional skills to better meet the needs of all students.
