A fundamental
part of the CaseNEX approach is our unique 5-Step Method for
approaching complex situations, understanding cause and effect relationships,
and exploring multiple solutions to challenging problems. Facilitators
are trained to use the 5-Step Method to help students gain the insight
and analytical skills to effectively address their own challenges.
The 5-Step Method includes the following:
Issues: Identify facts, issues, problems, and challenges. Discuss the obvious as well as the underlying or hidden issues.
Perspectives: Imagine how each character sees the issues, problems, and challenges presented.
Knowledge: Review what you know about the situation in the case. Apply current research and professional experience to the challenges facing the characters.
Actions: Propose effective actions the characters might take to address issues.
Consequences: Predict what might happen if proposed actions are taken. Think about what will happen immediately as well as what will happen later. Consider intended and unintended consequences.
