Stephen and Angela Peters developed The Gentlemen's Club and The Ladies' Club to empower at-risk youth. In each program, students learn the "values, beliefs, strategies, and techniques needed to give children hope." Each program strives to:

  1. Facilitate bringing about a shift in adult paradigms from intervention to prevention and empowerment programs for at-risk children;
  2. Foster the collaborative efforts of stakeholders;
  3. Gather, analyze, and utilize data in the selection process;
  4. Identify mentors, sponsors, and business partners who are interested in become disciplinary experts and establish personal relationships with students. These individuals have a central focus in a student's areas of interest, dreams, aspirations and long-term goals;
  5. Lead students into leadership skill development that will positively impact school climate and culture, as well as pave the way to heightened academic achievement;
  6. Gain buy-in from students at the first meeting by using effective verbal and nonverbal communication;
  7. Develop clearly defined rules, consistent and equitable rewards and consequences, and ongoing assessment criteria that help students to become self-directed in their behavior and accept responsibility for their actions; and
  8. Determine a sequencing of units that lead students into better understanding themselves, how they're smart, how they learn, and what barriers have hindered them in becoming successful in school.

These goals are holistically integrated into modules that help improve students' confidence and attitudes about school.
