Southwest RESA, Identification and Education of Students with Special Needs Registration is OPEN. CaseNEX is pleased to partner with the Southwest RESA to offer professional development in Special Education to teachers in the RESA's member districts. Through CaseNEX online professional development, teachers will build their capacity to serve students requiring special services through a case study approach. Teachers from the following systems are eligible to sign up for these courses: Baker County The Identification and Education of Students with Special Needs course is a 50 hour, online course. Course will receive 50 PLU credits from Southwest Georgia RESA after successful course completion. This online course will allow teachers to collaborate with peers and receive instructor feedback from the comfort of their home. CaseNEX courses provide a collaborative approach to learning and are based upon the tenets of problem-based learning. All materials and assignments are completed online, allowing teachers the flexibility to work from anywhere. Course Description Identification and Education of Students with Special NeedsCourse participants will develop instructional and leadership skills needed for teaching students with special learning needs, as well as students at-risk for academic and social failure. The concepts of teacher collaboration, least restrictive environment, accommodations and modifications, confidentiality, behavior management, identification, and giftedness will be reviewed using authentic case studies. Participants will reflect upon how these concepts drive instructional practices in today's challenging classroom environment. Using the cases as a launching point, teachers will be given the opportunity to participate in on-line discussions regarding beliefs, best practices, challenges, and current research.
